Youth Conference in Armavir

By Ani Mikaelyan, Volunteer at ADC NGO

📌 Team Arrival

Our journey began long before the conference day itself. As a team of dedicated volunteers, we gathered with a shared vision: to create something meaningful for our community. We spent hours planning every detail—both technical and creative. From shaping ideas to structuring activities, each discussion brought us closer to building an experience that would inspire, connect, and empower.

🪑 Space Setup & 📦 Material Prep

Once the plan was clear, we moved into action. Together, we organized the space to make it welcoming, dynamic, and comfortable for participants. Every chair, every corner, and every detail was arranged with intention—to create an environment where young people could feel safe, open, and motivated to participate.

We carefully prepared all the materials needed for the day. From game supplies to discussion prompts, creative tools, and activity sheets, everything was selected to support engagement and interaction. This stage was not just about logistics—it was about making sure every moment of the conference would have purpose and impact.

✅ Final Checks

Before the participants arrived, we reviewed everything once more. We checked the schedule, tested the flow of activities, and made sure the atmosphere reflected our goal: a day full of energy, meaning, and connection.

On the day of the conference, we officially opened the event with excitement and clarity. Participants  were introduced to what awaited them: a full day of meaningful discussions, interactive games, music, cultural exchange, and a positive, uplifting atmosphere.

🌟 The Conference Experience

From the very beginning, our purpose was clear—we had gathered to generate new ideas for improving our community.

We started with energetic icebreakers. In the first activity, we found someone who shared similar interests and switched places, creating immediate connections. In the second game, we searched for individuals matching descriptions written on cards, encouraging communication and teamwork.

After building this initial energy, we had a short break with candies and hot dogs, giving everyone time to relax and connect informally.

💬 Meaningful Discussions

The first major discussion focused on a powerful question:

What can an individual do to improve their community?

We were divided into 3 groups and shared thoughts, ideas, and personal perspectives. This conversation sparked awareness and responsibility, helping everyone see their own role in creating change.

🎲 Games & Connection

Following the discussion, we continued with interactive games like UNO, Mafia, and football. These activities strengthened bonds, encouraged teamwork, and kept the atmosphere lively and inclusive.

🧠 Deep Conversations

We then moved into another important discussion about teen influences—exploring both positive and negative impacts on young people, and how to overcome harmful influences. This created a safe space for honest dialogue and reflection.

A short break followed, allowing us to freely interact, build friendships, and deepen connections beyond structured activities.

🎨 Arts & Crafts

One of the most creative parts of the day was the arts and crafts session. We worked together to visually represent their community by cutting and assembling images from newspapers. This activity encouraged imagination and teamwork while expressing shared values and ideas.

💡 From Ideas to Action

The next discussion returned to a key question:

How can we improve our community?

This time, we didn’t just share ideas—we turned them into action plans. Each group selected a specific initiative and created a structured plan, outlining what they would do, when, and where.

For example, our team planned a tree-planting initiative, showing how small steps can lead to meaningful change. Participants also created posters to present and promote their ideas.

🔥 Closing Moments

After a productive day, we gathered for dinner with pizza, sharing laughter and reflecting on the experience.

To end the day, we went outside and gathered around a bonfire. With the sounds of violin and guitar filling the air, participants relaxed, connected, and celebrated the community they had built together in just one day.

🌍 Our Organizers

This conference was made possible thanks to Roxy and Daniel, dedicated volunteers who came from the United States to support community development and they organiza weekly “English corner” meetings at ADC NGO office.  Having worked with youth in California, they were inspired and excited to see the potential within our community and contribute to its growth.

✨ A Meaningful Beginning

This youth conference was not just a one-day event—it was a starting point. A beginning of new ideas, new connections, and real actions toward improving our community.
