TC “CIVICAN”

Representatives from Armavir Development Center (ADC) recently participated in the Erasmus+ “CIVICAN” training course in Dunajska Streda, Slovakia. This week-long program brought together participants from Slovakia, Spain, Czechia, Armenia, Greece, Georgia, Portugal, Italy, and Romania, offering a comprehensive series of interactive sessions, educational visits, and practical workshops aimed at enhancing youth workers’ ability to promote active citizenship in their communities.

The program began with team-building activities, allowing participants to form connections and gradually transition into educational topics about the European Union, Erasmus+ projects, and the Youthpass. The group then embarked on a visit to the European Parliament in Bratislava, where they discussed EU-related challenges and participated in a quiz game about the upcoming elections. A walking tour of Bratislava followed, giving participants the chance to explore the city and try traditional Slovak cuisine.

Throughout the course, participants engaged in sessions that examined personal identity, values, and the role of individuals within their local communities. These discussions were complemented by a visit to a local election site, where the group observed the Slovakian presidential election process firsthand.

Another key focus of the program was on understanding the tools necessary for bringing about change in society. Participants explored the various authorities and stakeholders involved in addressing community issues, and how to identify and engage them effectively. The training also included practice in conducting focus groups and the “World Café” method, a workshop designed to facilitate meaningful conversations about topics that matter to participants.

A visit to the municipality office in Dunajská Streda allowed the participants to engage with local authorities and discuss youth involvement in shaping their communities. The group also toured the town’s iconic football stadium and participated in a hybrid networking event with Salto-Youth and a Benelux-based youth organization in Armenia. Creative activities such as shield drawing further encouraged participants to represent their organizations and share insights with one another.

As the training program came to a close, participants reflected on their experiences, evaluated their progress, and received certificates of completion. The opportunity to relax and unwind at a spa during the final day provided a well-deserved conclusion to a productive and enriching week.

The Erasmus+ “CIVICAN” training course not only strengthened the community-building skills of youth workers but also deepened their understanding of civic engagement.

The project was financed by the ERASMUS+ programme of the European Union.
